My NYAW Annual President’s Report to AAW: Successful First Year & Bright Future Ahead

November 14th, 2011 @ 9:18 am by Cari Rincker

I was recently asked to submit a President’s Report for American Agri-Women Annual Meeting.  I thought I would share my report with the membership.

New York Agri-Women has had a successful first year. New York Agri-Women currently has 84 paid members and are in the process of seeking renewals from members. Elections took place in Fall 2010 establishing a leadership board, district leaders, and county leaders. Several of the county leaders have planned meetings at the local level grabbing media attention.

Both members and nonmembers are free to join the New York Agri-Women Google Email Group which provides updates on news and agriculture events in New York. The potential of the Google Group has yet to be fully optimized by the participants.

Meet up of Cayuga, Onondaga and Tompkins Counties for New York Agri-Women

August 21st, 2011 @ 7:07 pm by Julie Patterson

Yesterday, Aug. 20th was our first meet up of Cayuga, Onondaga and Tompkins Counties for New York Agri-Women.   The luncheon was held at the Ward O’Hara Ag Museum in Auburn on Owasco Lake.  Chris Fesko was our featured speaker, her talk was inspiring, educational, and entertaining.  Chris spoke with the group about how and why she got started filming her award winning videos that have touched so many people around the country.  Her videos educate children and adults about the many facets of agriculture today.  Chris also runs a discovery center that hundreds of students visit each year and learn “by experience” while visiting the Discovery Center instead of just learning out of a book in the classroom.

Some of the things I personally took home from her talk was, “be proud of being a farmer and talk with people about it!“  Also, she feels one of biggest enemies is the statement “somebody told me…”  People in general believe what they hear without any information to back up the thought, that is why it is important to talk with others about our agricultural businesses and help educate them.

After Chris spoke, we had a wonderful lunch of BBQ chicken (thank you Molly Zorn for the preparation), salads (thank you Georgianne Centore and Donna Mayer) and cookies (thank you Erica Leubner).  Our team of ladies did a wonderful job of pulling this event together and I very much appreciate their dedication and time!
